Boone

Full Name: Boone Carlyle

Meaning of the name: Shannon referred to him as "God's gift to humanity". A boon is a gift.
Profession: Works in his mother's international bridal business, headquartered in Malibu, CA

Health Status: DECEASED died from injuries sustained in a fall
Boone Carlyle was the step-brother of Shannon and chief operating officer of his mother's wedding businesses. He had mixed feelings about his step-sister, being repulsed at his discovery that she has tricked him to get money by pretending to need it to get away from abusive men. However, Shannon later admitted that she was aware that Boone had actually been in love with her.

Boone became the protégé of John Locke, having initially followed him to hunt for Charlie and Claire after they had been kidnapped by Ethan Rom, then discovering and digging up the metal hatch to a mysterious pod-- the existence of which Locke swore him to secrecy, claiming that the others were not ready to know about it, and instead to tell them they were "hunting for boar." Locke was also instrumental in changing Boone's perception of his relationship with his step-sister. In Deus Ex Machina Locke has a vision-dream, in which Boone repeats the phrase, "Theresa falls up the stairs; Theresa falls down the stairs." Boone reveals that Theresa had been his nanny as a child, upon whom he took out his frustration at the absence of his mother. She fell to her death down the stairs in his house while responding to his summons. The same dream led to the "sign" from the island of a small airplane crashed in the forest, which the two followed to find a heroin runner's Beechcraft stuck in the trees.

Boone died in Do No Harm of wounds sustained from falling out of a tree in the crashed airplane discovered in the previous episode.

Boone frequently wore a t-shirt with the Chinese characters meaning 84, which are two of the unlucky Numbers that frequently appear throughout the show. This was also the shirt that Boone was wearing in Locke's vision of him, and the shirt he wore when he died.

According to Ian Somerhalder, Boone's last name is Carlyle, and not Carlisle as previously thought. This would make him the third character, after John Locke (John Locke) and Danielle Rousseau (Jean-Jacques Rousseau) to be named after an Enlightenment philosopher, since his surname is spelled the same way as Thomas Carlyle's.
About Ian Somerhalder:
The son of a massage therapist and a building contractor, Somerhalder was born and raised in the small southern town of Covington, LA. Boating, swimming, fishing and training horses filled much of his recreational time growing up, as did the school drama club and performing with the local theater group. With his mother's encouragement, at age 10 he began a modeling career that took him to New York each summer. By junior high, he opted to put modeling on the back burner and focus more on sports and school. A few years later, when the opportunity to model in Europe arose, Somerhalder grabbed it, embarking on an enriching path of work, travel and study that took him to cities including Paris, Milan and London. At 17, he began studying acting in New York, and by 19 had committed himself to the craft, working with preeminent acting coach William Esper. His fate was sealed while working as an extra in a club scene in the feature film Black & White. A talent manager visiting a client on the set spotted Somerhalder in a crowd scene of 400 and immediately signed him for representation. Happy to be anchored in New York, Somerhalder spends much of his time studying acting, writing and practicing yoga. His recreational interests include water and snow skiing and horseback riding.
