About Hurley (played by Jorge Garcia)

About Hurley (played by Jorge Garcia)

Hurley

Full Name: Hugo Reyes

Reason for trip: Returning from trip to Kalgoorlie, Australia to find the meaning of his "cursed" winning lottery numbers from Sam Toomey.
Profession: Various enterprises and investments; among other things, owns a box company in Tustin, CA and a sneaker factory in Canada
A young Latino from the Los Angeles area, Hugo Reyes, better known by his nickname, Hurley, is not simply the laid-back everyman he at first appears. Before the crash, Hurley had become extremely wealthy, winning a multi-million dollar lottery using numbers revealed to him by a psychiatric patient in a mental hospital. Afterwards, people around seemed to be afflicted by misfortunes: his grandfather suddenly died during an interview with news crews; lightning struck at the funeral; Hurley's brother lost his wife to another woman; his mother broke her ankle while getting out of the car to see the new home Hurley bought for her, which itself caught on fire as they watched; and Hurley himself was mistakenly arrested. Yet, he also continued to experience incredible luck, with his money and acquisitions continuing to accumulate, including ownership of a box company in Tustin, California, which is likely the same company at which John Locke was a collections supervisor. Hurley came to believe that the lottery numbers he used-- 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42-- were cursed.

When Hurley returned to the hospital to discover the origin of "the numbers," the patient, Leonard, revealed that he heard about them from Sam Toomey, a naval officer who heard the numbers while monitoring radio signals. Hurley tracked down the man to his home in the outback of Australia, only to find out from his wife that he had also thought the numbers were cursed, and killed himself to finally escape them. Hurley now believes that the airplane crash was also his fault.

Since coming to the island, Hurley has quickly bonded with Jack and Charlie, and has managed to sustain fairly strong relationships with everyone else, probably due to his apparent friendliness and straightforwardness. He has revealed his secret-- he is worth over $156 million -- only to Charlie, but the revelation was treated as a joke. While he appears to be happy-go-lucky and often provides comic relief, Hurley may have had a troubled past, which has been alluded to on occasion. He has been very active on the island, creating a golf course to ease people's tensions, taking the census that revealed that Ethan was not a survivor, and heading into the jungle to find Rousseau, ultimately recovering a battery for Sayid.

In Exodus: Parts 2 & 3, Hurley discovered that the serial number on the hatch matched the numbers he played in the lottery. He tried to keep Locke and Jack from blowing the hatch open, but he was unsuccessful.

Hurley's mother is Catholic and doesn't believe in curses. When Hurley first began to think that the money he won was cursed, he got slapped in the face.

Hurley currently owes Walt $20,000 from losing at backgammon.
About Jorge Garcia:
When Jorge Garcia played a villain in his school’s seventh-grade musical production, based on the comic strip “Drabble,” his song brought down the house. It was then that he realized that acting might just be the ticket for him.

After college he joined the Beverly Hills Playhouse and has been working steadily ever since. His television credits include being a series regular on “Becker,” guest leads on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Spin City,” and the television movie “Columbo: Columbo Likes the Nightlife.” Garcia was also seen on the big screen in the films “The Good Humor Man” and “Little Athens.”

On stage he has appeared in productions of “The Midnight Zone,” “Something Borrowed Something Blue,” “Romancing Valentino,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Hurlyburly” and “Guys and Dolls.”

Garcia enjoys doing standup comedy and has performed at the Laugh Factory and Comedy Store in Los Angeles. He likes singing Rock ‘n’ Roll and has worked in record stores since high school – amassing a huge CD collection.

About Mr. Eko (played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)

About Mr. Eko (played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje)

Mr. Eko

Full Name: Unknown

Reason for trip: Unknown
Meaning of the name: Unknown
Profession: Former Nigerian warlord and drug dealer, possible Roman Catholic priest

Eko survives the crash of the tail section, and is the first to return to the water to help other survivors to the shore. When the tail-section survivors are attacked by The Others during that first night, he is among those targeted. Unlike three of their other targets, however, Eko fights back against his attackers and wins, killing two of them. Disturbed and saddened by his actions, even though they were done in self-defense, Eko remains silent for the next 40 days, instead channeling his efforts into the carving of a stick that he adorns with references to Biblical passages.

Among the tail-section survivors, Eko simultaneously comes to be the muscle and the soul of the group. His strength is well evidenced by his single-handedly incapacitating Sawyer, Michael and Jin when they are mistaken for the mysterious attackers. However, he also speaks up in defense of the trio, frequently disagreeing with the merciless Ana Lucia. Moreover, Eko is also the first of the tail-section survivors to support them, as evidenced by his actions when Michael takes off in search of The Others. Even though he was initially assaulted by Jin, it is Eko who goes off with Jin to find Michael.

After the tail-section survivors begin making their way across the island to join the mid-section survivors, Eko proves pivotal in helping the two groups come together in the face of truly terrible circumstances. After Ana-Lucia shoots and kills Shannon and takes Sayid hostage, Eko, carrying a dying Sawyer on his back, stands up to a crazed Ana-Lucia. Then, after arriving at the Station 3 bunker, he meets Locke, to whom he tells the story of Shannon's shooting. When Jack hears this, he begins preparing weapons for an assault on Eko's group. Not wishing to see any more bloodshed, Eko stops Jack, instead offering to take Jack to the other group if he promises to bring no guns.

Soon afterward, in Station 3, Eko meets with Locke once again, who is looking deeper into the mysteries of the bunker. After Michael, Eko, and Locke watch the Dharma Initiative's Station 3 orientation film, Eko pulls Locke to the side. There, Eko shows him an item he'd found in the other bunker: a hollowed-out Bible, which contains a missing piece of the orientation film.

Later, Eko learns from Claire that Charlie has been carrying around a Virgin Mary statue. Surprised and angered, Eko confronts Charlie about the statue and forces him to bring Eko to the plane. While wandering through the jungle, while Charlie is in the trees searching for the plane, the island's "security system" appears and charges Eko. Undaunted by the dangerous entity before him, Eko stands his ground and stares down the "security system," which displays in its smokey swirls flashes of images from his past. Unshaken by the encounter, Eko continues on, until he and Charlie arrive at the plane, the same Beechcraft plane Eko had used in Nigeria. Inside, Eko finds his brother's body, and, coming full circle, retrieves the cross pendant that had been thrown away by the guerrillas when he was taken from his village. Afterward, he and Charlie set the plane ablaze, as the two recite the 23rd Psalm.

After Charlie begins having seemingly prophetic dreams and visions of Aaron in grave danger, Eko baptises Claire and Aaron at Claire's request.

About Charlie (played by Dominic Monaghan)

About Charlie (played by Dominic Monaghan)

Charlie

Full Name: Charlie Pace

Reason for trip: Flying to LA for Drive Shaft's eight week comeback tour opening for "Meat Coat".
Origin Of Name: Along with a drummer, a bassist is responsible for setting the pace of a song, whilst 'Charlie' is a common British term for the drug 'Cocaine', often associated with the rock n' roll lifestyle he once led.
Profession: Bassist for Drive Shaft
The former bass player for the UK band Drive Shaft from Manchester, England, Charlie Pace was originally very hesitant to capitalize on the band's growing success. The tribulations and temptations of the rock-star lifestyle weighed heavily on him, even as his band gained notoriety. In the end, however, he was convinced by his brother, Liam, to participate in the band's future, explaining that the band needed Charlie because "he was the band." Nonetheless, Charlie only agreed after eliciting a promise from Liam that, if they ever felt it was too much, they would just walk away.

As Drive Shaft became a world-famous band, Charlie noticed that his brother Liam was becoming both more self-destructive in his addictions and more controlling of the band. Just after a live performance, the situation boiled over when Charlie told Liam that the time had come to walk away. When Liam stormed off shouting that "he was the band now," Charlie realized that he had probably let it all go too far. Alone in the dressing room and blinded by the pain of the current situation, Charlie turned to Liam's heroin stash.

Eventually, Drive Shaft's fame faded, and with it, Charlie's relationship with Liam. The band broke up, and Charlie had to resort to theft to feed his heroin addiction. After a failed relationship with a wealthy woman named Lucy, Charlie turned to his brother to try to re-unite the band for a new tour. He flew to Australia to get his brother, who was now married and settled down, on board. Unlike Charlie, however, Liam could not be swayed by the promise of a return to the rock-star lifestyle. Moreover, when Liam noticed that Charlie was still addicted to heroin, he tried to get Charlie to remain in Sydney and enter a treatment program. Angry with Liam and blaming him for getting him hooked on heroin, Charlie storms off, saying he has a plane to catch.

The night before the flight, he meets a female fan in a bar and goes on a heroin binge with her in his hotel room. In the morning, he attempts to hide the remaining heroin from her, causing her to beat him up in attempt to take it from him. While he is hurrying for his flight, his hotel elevator is interrupted by the frantic Hurley, causing Charle to scold Hurley with "some of us have a plane to catch." On board the airplane, he attempts to cram his bass guitar into clothes closet. It is implied that he has taken his remaining heroin aboard the plane and stashes it in the forward lavatory near the cockpit. It is ostensibly for this reason that he insists on accompanying Jack and Kate on their initial expedition to find the nose of the plane, and why he mysteriously disappears while Jack and Kate interview the pilot in the cockpit.

Since coming to the island, Charlie has been involved in several major trials. First, he has been dealing with withdrawal from his addiction after burning his remaining stash in The Moth. Second, Charlie, along with Claire, was kidnapped by Ethan Rom, and nearly died when Ethan hung him from a tree. Third, after Claire's escape, Ethan came to him with a threat of killing the remaining survivors one by one until Claire was brought to him. When Ethan made good on his promise by killing Scott Jackson, the core survivors planned to capture him. In the ensuing fight with Ethan, Charlie took matters into his own hands and shot Ethan in Homecoming, claiming that it had to be done because he would never stop hunting Claire or them.

In Exodus Part 2 & 3, Rousseau kidnaps Claire's child. While pursuing her, Charlie follows Sayid to the plane where Boone was mortally injured. Not knowing that Charlie is a recovering addict, Sayid casually mentions the plane's cargo of heroin hidden within religious statuettes. As Sayid turns to leave, Charlie stares longingly at the packets scattered nearby; while the episode is ambiguous on whether he has resumed using the drug, his backpack is later shown holding one of the religious statuettes.

Charlie has developed several strong friendships on the island, but is closest to Hurley, and has a relationship bordering on romance with Claire.

About Boone (played by Ian Somerhalder)

About Boone (played by Ian Somerhalder)

Boone

Full Name: Boone Carlyle

Reason for trip: Returning after Shannon's "rescue" from abusive boyfriend
Meaning of the name: Shannon referred to him as "God's gift to humanity". A boon is a gift.
Profession: Works in his mother's international bridal business, headquartered in Malibu, CA
Island relationship: Brother of Shannon
Health Status: DECEASED died from injuries sustained in a fall
Boone Carlyle was the step-brother of Shannon and chief operating officer of his mother's wedding businesses. He had mixed feelings about his step-sister, being repulsed at his discovery that she has tricked him to get money by pretending to need it to get away from abusive men. However, Shannon later admitted that she was aware that Boone had actually been in love with her.

Boone became the protégé of John Locke, having initially followed him to hunt for Charlie and Claire after they had been kidnapped by Ethan Rom, then discovering and digging up the metal hatch to a mysterious pod-- the existence of which Locke swore him to secrecy, claiming that the others were not ready to know about it, and instead to tell them they were "hunting for boar." Locke was also instrumental in changing Boone's perception of his relationship with his step-sister. In Deus Ex Machina Locke has a vision-dream, in which Boone repeats the phrase, "Theresa falls up the stairs; Theresa falls down the stairs." Boone reveals that Theresa had been his nanny as a child, upon whom he took out his frustration at the absence of his mother. She fell to her death down the stairs in his house while responding to his summons. The same dream led to the "sign" from the island of a small airplane crashed in the forest, which the two followed to find a heroin runner's Beechcraft stuck in the trees.

Boone died in Do No Harm of wounds sustained from falling out of a tree in the crashed airplane discovered in the previous episode.

Boone frequently wore a t-shirt with the Chinese characters meaning 84, which are two of the unlucky Numbers that frequently appear throughout the show. This was also the shirt that Boone was wearing in Locke's vision of him, and the shirt he wore when he died.

According to Ian Somerhalder, Boone's last name is Carlyle, and not Carlisle as previously thought. This would make him the third character, after John Locke (John Locke) and Danielle Rousseau (Jean-Jacques Rousseau) to be named after an Enlightenment philosopher, since his surname is spelled the same way as Thomas Carlyle's.
About Ian Somerhalder:
The son of a massage therapist and a building contractor, Somerhalder was born and raised in the small southern town of Covington, LA. Boating, swimming, fishing and training horses filled much of his recreational time growing up, as did the school drama club and performing with the local theater group. With his mother's encouragement, at age 10 he began a modeling career that took him to New York each summer. By junior high, he opted to put modeling on the back burner and focus more on sports and school. A few years later, when the opportunity to model in Europe arose, Somerhalder grabbed it, embarking on an enriching path of work, travel and study that took him to cities including Paris, Milan and London. At 17, he began studying acting in New York, and by 19 had committed himself to the craft, working with preeminent acting coach William Esper. His fate was sealed while working as an extra in a club scene in the feature film Black & White. A talent manager visiting a client on the set spotted Somerhalder in a crowd scene of 400 and immediately signed him for representation. Happy to be anchored in New York, Somerhalder spends much of his time studying acting, writing and practicing yoga. His recreational interests include water and snow skiing and horseback riding.

About Ana-Lucia (played by Michelle Rodriguez)

About Ana-Lucia (played by Michelle Rodriguez)

Ana-Lucia

Full Name: Ana-Lucia Cortez

Reason for trip: Hired as a bodyguard for Jack's father, Christian Sheppard
Meaning of the name: Unknown
Profession: LAPD officer
Health Status: DECEASED shot by Michael

After the tail section of the plane crashes in "The Other 48 Days", Ana unofficially becomes the leader of the survivors. The group does not fare as well as the group on the other side of the island due to a lack of people and supplies (in the form of luggage, to which the "tailies" did not have access, since the tail section crashed into the ocean). Also, without a doctor who is more able to help with the crash survivors' injuries, many of the injured tail-section survivors die within a week of the crash.

On the first day they are stranded, Ana takes a liking to two children. She promises them that she will reunite them with their parents, and becomes relatively friendly with Goodwin, an assumed fellow survivor who claims past service in the Peace Corps.

The first night, the Others attack the camp, taking the three strongest members of their group. They attempt to take Eko, but he manages to kill two of them and escape. Two weeks later the Others attack the camp again and abduct nine of the survivors, including the two children. After killing one of the Others, Ana discovers a piece of paper with the names of all the kidnapped, along with their descriptions.

After the abduction, the Tailies decide to take refuge in the jungle. During the course of the trek, Ana becomes highly suspicious of Nathan, noting that she had not seen him on the plane, and wondering about his long absences from camp. By the time they set up a new camp in the jungle, complete with a pit they dug as a jail cell, Ana accuses Nathan of being in league with those who abducted the other survivors (the Others), and places him into the pit. The other survivors express doubt about this course of action, but do nothing to oppose Ana. One night, when the others are sleeping, Goodwin frees Nathan, but before Nathan can flee, Goodwin breaks his neck, killing him, revealing himself to be in league with the Others.

Goodwin is able to abscond with Nathan's body, giving the impression that he has escaped and fled. However, Goodwin's cover is blown when Ana confronts him with the fact that he had emerged from the jungle just 10 minutes after the plane crash, but with completely dry clothes. Goodwin tells Ana that the children are safe and that those who were on the list were kidnapped because they were "good people". Goodwin attacks Ana, who after a physical struggle, is able to impale him through the chest with a wooden stake, killing him. Whether as a result of her actions that indirectly led to Nathan's death, or having had to kill Goodwin, Ana sobs with grief. Eko, speaking for the first time since the night he was nearly abducted, tells her everything will be all right. She asks him why it took him forty days to speak; he asks her why it took her forty days to cry.

Subsequently, the survivors encounter Sawyer, Michael, and Jin, after they have unsuccessfully attempted to escape the island via a raft, which the Others have destroyed, and have also shot Sawyer in the shoulder. At first the two groups take each other to be the Others, and after the Tailies place the three rafters in the pit, Ana (whom they have not yet met), is also placed in the pit posing as another captive, in order to learn more about the three men. After taking Sawyer's gun away from him, Ana reveals her true allegiance, and leaves the pit.

Eventually, the Tailies, beginning to trust the three, decide to let them lead them to their camp on the other side of the island. During their journey, Sawyer falls unconscious as a result of his wound's infection, and the insistence on carrying him to camp leads to increased tension with Ana. By the time the group is within range of the camp, they hear the telltale whispers associated with the Others, and as Sawyer, Michael and Jin's campmate, Shannon emerge from the jungle after seeing images of Michael's son Walt, Ana shoots her in the abdomen, killing her. Shannon's lover, Sayid, happens on the scene immediately afterward, and (as continued in the episode Collision), Sayid quickly pulls his gun on Ana. Mr. Eko stops him and, after a scuffle, Sayid is knocked unconscious. Ana-Lucia, believing Sayid will not stop until he has revenge on her for Shannon's death, has him tied to a tree, and Ana's fellow Tailies, Eko, Bernard and Libby, increasingly find their loyalty to Ana tested as a result. Ultimately, Eko decides to carry the ailing Sawyer to his camp, and Michael, Jin, Libby and Bernard eventually decide to follow, leaving the restrained Sayid alone with Ana. The two slowly begin to bare their souls to one another. Sayid realizes Ana does not have a plan, but merely her guilt, and reveals to her his own past misdeeds, including his torture of fellow Iraqis during his time in the Republican Guard. By the end of the episode, she unties him and tells him to kill her. He tells her that it wouldn't do her any good, as they are both already dead inside.

She does not attend Shannon's funeral, though Eko explains to her that most of the survivors understand that the girl's death was an accident. Jack tries to reconnect with Ana-Lucia, and the two share a bottle of tequila on the beach. In the days following, however, Ana-Lucia continues to live separately from the other survivors, until Jack, in "The Hunting Party", asks her to help build an army to fight the Others.
About Michelle Rodriguez:

About Shannon (played by Maggie Grace)

About Shannon (played by Maggie Grace)

Shannon

Full Name: Shannon Rutherford

Reason for trip: Returning with Boone from Sydney.
Profession: Unknown, presumably unemployed
Island relationship: Sister of Boone
Health Status: DECEASED shot accidentally by Ana Lucia

The manipulative Shannon Rutherford is Boone's step-sister. She has frequently been displayed as (in the series) a cunning and extremely clever person, more so than people give her credit for. Shannon has grown up in various places around the world, having lived in France, Australia, and the United States. Because of her step-mother's exclusion of her from the family money, Shannon has a long history of conning Boone into giving her large sums of money, frequently through his "buying out" of her abusive boyfriends. In fact, it was one such con which brought both of them to Australia. However, this was to be her last con, as her then boyfriend explained the situation to Boone, and later defrauded Shannon of the check Boone had written to "save" her. That night, after arriving at his hotel room while intoxicated, she seduced Boone, sleeping with him just before their flight from Australia.

Since coming to the island, she has done her best to keep everyone at arms length, frequently behaving selfishly. Nonetheless, Sayid had broken through to her while attempting to decode French words on Rousseau's maps, and they had been developing a romantic relationship. However, with the death of Boone, Shannon became enraged with John Locke, and when Sayid refused to kill him before also interfering with her attempt, their relationship took a turn for the worse.

In a flashback, she met Sayid for the first time when the two were waiting to board the plane at the airport in Sydney. He asked her to watch his bag, and she told a security person that an "Arab man" had left his bag unattended in the waiting area. She told Boone that she did this just to prove to him that she can do whatever she wants to do.

In Raised by Another, Shannon gives her age as 20.

About Sun (played by Yunjin Kim)

About Sun (played by Yunjin Kim)

Sun

Full Name: Sun-Soo Kwon, nee Paik

Reason for trip: Vacation trip with husband, Jin
Profession: Housewife
Island relationship: Married to Jin
Jin's wife, Sun-Soo Kwon came to the island by accident, after nearly leaving her husband. Her marriage began with great promise, as Jin managed to convince her wealthy father, Mr. Paik, of his intentions. Unbeknownst to Sun, however, her father had placed a significant burden on Jin by demanding he come work for him. Over time, Jin became distant and abusive, and, seeking to escape her failing marriage, Sun began taking English lessons in secret. Finally, with the help of a friend, Sun was given a chance to escape her husband while at the Sydney airport. A single moment of tenderness from Jin while waiting in the check-in line reminded her of her love for him, and she decided not to leave him at the last minute.

On the island, she was initially suppressed by Jin, who felt it was his job to protect the two of them from the other survivors. However, over time, as Jin's attitudes brought the couple into conflict with the others, she began to assert herself, and has since become a very important contributor to the lives of the survivors. Her knowledge of herbal medicine made from plants and wildlife found throughout the island has proven very valuable in a number of instances. She and Kate are growing a vegetable garden with some of the herbs that she has found to be useful for curing common ailments. She has also proven an able medical assistant to Jack, including recommending the use of sea urchin quills to pierce Jack's skin in order to transfuse his blood into Boone, and has been a voice of calm and reason when some people begin to go too far. Unfortunately, her freedom has come at a price: when Jin found out that she had been keeping her English language knowledge a secret, he told her that their marriage was over, and has since refused to speak to her.

On Kate's advice, the day before the second raft was scheduled to leave the island, Sun poisoned Jin's water. But Michael drank the water instead, and fell ill. Only Jack, Sun and Kate know that Sun is responsible for the poisoning.

Prior to Jin's departure on the raft, he and Sun reconciled.

About Walt (played by Malcolm David Kelley)

About Walt (played by Malcolm David Kelley)

Walt

Full Name: Walt Lloyd

Reason for trip: Returning to the US with his biological father Michael Dawson.
Profession: Student
Island relationship: Son of Michael
Walt Lloyd is Michael Dawson's 10 year old son (born August 24, 1994), named after Michael's father. Walt's mother was Susan Lloyd, an attorney, who rejected marriage with his father, a construction worker and part-time artist. His mother split up with Michael while Walt was still a baby, and moved with him to Amsterdam for a plum international law job. Just before Walt's second birthday, Susan married her boss, Brian Porter. Later, while he was recovering in a hospital from a car accident, she visited Michael and insisted he give up parental rights to his son, so that Brian could adopt him.

Nine years later, Brian tracked down Michael, and told him that Susan had passed away in Australia due to a "blood disorder." He pleaded with Michael to take custody of the boy and gave him tickets for the flight to Sydney. Brian revealed that he had not wanted to be Walt's adoptive father, and that he was scared of the boy: "There's something about him... Sometimes when he's around things happen. He's different somehow."

Unusual occurrences have appeared around him. Just prior to his mother's death, Walt was studying from a book about native birds, and wanted Brian to look at the entry for the Australian Bronze cuckoo. When Brian ignored him, Walt became insistent, and a bird suddenly smashed into the window and died. On the Island, when Walt had been looking through a comic book with a picture of a polar bear rather than listening to his father, Michael took it away from him. Later, in anger, Michael threw the comic into the fire, and Walt ran off, only to be attacked shortly afterwards by a polar bear in the jungle.

Walt and John Locke established a friendship shortly after arriving on the island. Locke had seen something special in the boy, and told his father as such: "Maybe you haven't spent enough time with him to see it, but he's different... As long as we're here, I think Walt should be allowed to realize his potential." This has led to Michael mistrusting Locke's intentions with the boy.

In Born to Run, without having any apparent knowledge of "the hatch," Walt appeared to exhibited some form of psychometric clairvoyance: after touching Locke's arm, he tells him ominously: "Don't open it. Don't open that thing."

During the episode In Translation Walt secretly set fire to the initial raft that Michael had been building. Locke had been the only person on the island who realized this. The day before the second raft was set to be launched, Walt confessed to his father that he was responsible for burning the first raft, because he didn't want to leave the island. With a sudden realization, Michael told him that they didn't have to go, but Walt replied solemnly, "Yes, we do."

Walt has a yellow Labrador retriever named Vincent, which had been owned by Brian. Before leaving the island on the raft, Walt gave Vincent to Shannon, to help her to cope with the loss of Boone.

While on the raft, in Exodus: Part 3, Michael, Walt, and the others run into a ship, though instead of rescue, the crew of the other ship kidnapped Walt and left Michael, Jin, and Sawyer in the sea.

photo Jack is on an Oceanic flight, and he looks in bad shape. He's drunk and impatient with the flight attendant. Jack notices a newspaper article that upsets him, and he carefully rips out the article. Back in Los Angeles, Jack drives to a bridge and parks to make a phone call. He gets the person's automated voicemail and tries to leave a message but can't. Then he gets out of his car and steps up on top of the railing to jump. Jack says "Forgive me " and begins to lean forward when behind him there's a horrific crash and collision of cars. Suddenly one of the cars is on fire and Jack can hear a woman cry out for help. Jack jumps down from the edge and runs towards the cars to help.

WHOOSH to the island where Jack is ready to lead the beach camp to the radio tower. He knows the Others will be there soon. Jack checks in with Sayid, makes sure he has everything he needs. Sayid tells Jack to keep moving and not to turn back for any reason. Sayid's willing to give his life if it means securing rescue but not if it means nothing. Jack leads the group out. Sayid, Jin and Bernard remain behind, take their positions, and wait.

Bonnie radios Ben on the walkie. He immediately asks why she's breaking radio silence, and she tells him Charlie swam down and they have him tied up. It was Juliet who told his group about the station. Ben can't believe this. He tells her he's sending help. He clicks off and orders Mikhail to go to the Looking Glass station. Mikhail is surprised Ben had told them it was flooded and inoperable. Ben says he lied. Mikhail asks if Juliet told them about the station, what else did she tell them about?

Ben immediately tries to get Pryce on the walkie, but Pryce and his team have reached the camp and turned their walkies off. Everything in the camp looks normal. Diane returns and tells Pryce that Juliet marked the tents like she said she would. Diane, Matthew and Luke creep up to the first tent. Friendly, Ivan and Grimes approach the second tent. Sayid and Bernard take aim, but Jin can't the third team isn't close to the tent he is covering. Diane looks inside a tent and warns them that it's empty. Sayid shoots KA BOOM! The tent, Diane, Matthew and Luke explode in a huge fireball.

Pryce recoils, shocked. He shouts to the others NO! Friendly stops, and tells everyone to get away from the tent. But then Bernard fires and KA BOOM! Ivan and Grimes are ripped to pieces while Friendly is blown back. Jin shoots but he hits the sand. Pryce warns the Others that they're in the tree line. Jin shoots an Other in the chest. Then Pryce slams Jin in the back of the head with the butt of his rifle, and Jin drops. Pryce grabs Jin and uses him as a shield. Sayid aims for Pryce, but Jason comes up from behind with a gun to his head and captures him. Bernard takes off into the jungle, but then Friendly is suddenly there and BAM! Levels Bernard with a blow. Friendly calls out that he has the other one.

Jack and the rest of the group are in a high vista and look down on the beach camp. Rose points out that there were only two explosions. Kate says it didn't work. Rose and Sun are frightened. Jack assures them that everything is fine. Sun wants to wait for Sayid, Jin and Bernard to join them, but Jack says no. They have to keep moving.

WHOOSH to Jack at St. Sebastian hospital. A nurse stitches a cut on his forehead when Sarah walks in she's still listed as his emergency contact. She asks him if he's drinking again, but Jack becomes belligerent and won't answer. Jack asks for a ride home, but she says no. She says she's glad he's okay and leaves.

WHOOSH to the Looking Glass station. Charlie seems unconcerned about his situation. He tells Bonnie and Greta that he's there to turn off the jamming signal. They are surprised at his confidence. Bonnie asks him what the code is. Code? Charlie doesn't know anything about a code, but he is still confident. He'll turn it off after the station is flooded. Bonnie asks what happens to him if the station floods, and Charlie says he dies, and it's clear he has accepted his fate.

Friendly radios Ben and tells him seven of their team died. Ben tells him Juliet betrayed them. Pryce asks Sayid where the other survivors went, but Sayid won't answer. Ben tells them to shoot Jin and then they'll talk. Pryce is about to do it but Bernard caves and tells them the others went to the radio tower. It was Karl who warned them they were coming early. Ben tells Alpert that he and Alex will go to the radio tower and that Alpert should continue with the Others to the Temple.

Out on the ocean in the outrigger, Desmond comes to as bullets riddle the boat. What? In the distance he sees Mikhail shooting at him! Realizing he's a sitting duck, Desmond dives into the ocean and swims down to the Looking Glass station. He burst up through the moon pool, gasping for air and surprised to see Charlie tied to a chair. Charlie quickly warns him to hide, and Desmond jumps into a locker as Bonnie and Greta come back to investigate the noise.

WHOOSH to Jack at the hospital checking on the woman from the bridge accident. Dr. Hamill walks in and introduces himself as the new Chief of Surgery. He calls Jack a hero twice over and says Jack was in the right place at the right time. Jack says he wants to operate on the woman first thing in the morning, but Dr. Hamill reminds Jack the woman isn't his patient. Besides, Jack has done enough. He pulled the woman's little boy out of the flaming wreckage and then went back for her. Hamill tells Jack to go home.

WHOOSH to the island as the beach camp group continues trekking. Sawyer suddenly announces he's going back. Jack says no, but Sawyer tells him he ain't asking permission. Kate says she'll go with him, but Sawyer says no, he doesn't want to go with her. Kate is hurt. Juliet says she knows where there is a hidden cache with guns. She and Sawyer can go back that way and get the guns. Jack reluctantly lets them go. Juliet then leans over and kisses Jack. Kate watches.

In the Looking Glass station, Mikhail suddenly shoots up out of the moon pool. Mikhail sees Charlie and asks where the other one is. Bonnie and Great have no idea what he's talking about. Charlie asks why Ben lied to his own people about the station being flooded and why they're jamming all transmissions off the island. Mikhail reacts. He asks if that's true. Ben calls Mikhail and says everything he did was for the island. Jacob told him to do all this. Ben tells Mikhail to trust him. The jamming signal must continue functioning at all costs. Then he orders Mikhail to kill Charlie, Bonnie and Greta.

On the way back to the beach, Juliet confesses to Sawyer that there are no guns. She lied because it was the only way that Jack would let them come back. Hurley runs up and asks if he can go with them and help. Sawyer says no, he'd just get in the way and get them killed. Hurley is heartbroken.

Cut to Locke in the mass grave struggling to reach something he's still alive! However, he can't seem to move his legs. With a huge effort, he grabs a gun from one of the skeleton's holster and brings it up to his temple. "John. Don't." Locke looks up, and standing at the edge of the ditch is Walt! Walt orders Locke to get out of the ditch because he has work to do.

WHOOSH to Jack as he drives up to a funeral parlor. He calls the mystery person again and gets their automated voicemail. Frustrated, he hangs up and goes inside. It's empty. The funeral director tells Jack no one showed up, only him. Jack seems disappointed. He digs into his pocket and pulls out a prescription bottle. There's only one pill left. He swallows it and leaves, driving to a drug store. However, the pharmacist won't fill his prescription. Jack gives her another prescription, but she says he can't write a prescription or himself. Jack says it's from his father. A customer recognizes Jack as the hero on the TV. He tells the pharmacist to give Jack whatever he needs. The pharmacist says she's going to have to call Jack's father's office to confirm it, and Jack gets nervous. He says his father's out of town. The pharmacist picks up the phone, and Jack shouts for her not to bother. Angry, he blows out of the store.

In the Looking Glass station, Mikhail asks if they can turn the jamming equipment off. Greta says sure, Ben gave them the code. She and Bonnie are the only ones who have it. Mikhail asks what if the station were flooded. Greta says the casing is waterproof. It'll keep working forever. Well then. BAM! Mikhail shoots Greta and Bonnie! Bonnie doesn't die immediately, and Mikhail tells her he's just following orders. But then Desmond flies out of the locker he was hiding in and shoots Mikhail in the chest with a speargun. Charlie tells Desmond not to kill Bonnie because they need her for the code. Charlie reasons with her, pointing out that Ben obviously told Mikhail to shoot her. She now has an opportunity to make Ben very angry. Bonnie says the code is "Good Vibrations." The numbers correspond to the notes because the code was programmed by a musician.

As the group continues trekking, Jack tells Kate that Sawyer didn't mean what he said. He was only trying to protect her. Kate asks why Jack is defending Sawyer, and Jack simply tells her because he loves her. Kate is stunned. Then the group suddenly stops because standing in front of them are Ben and Alex. Ben tells Jack they need to talk. Jack doesn't move. Ben tells Jack that since he just killed seven of Ben's people, the least Jack could do is talk to him for five minutes. Jack reluctantly agrees.

Ben warns Jack that history is about to repeat itself. If Jack goes through with his plan to contact Naomi's boat, every person on the island will be killed. Naomi isn't who she says she is. She's a representative of the people trying to find the island. She's one of the bad guys. Ben offers Jack a deal: if Jack gives him Naomi's sat phone, Ben will go back to his people and let Jack go back to his. Jack says he's not going anywhere. Ben tells Jack they have Jin, Bernard and Sayid at gunpoint. He keys Friendly on the walkie and tells him that if he doesn't hear his voice in one minute to shoot them all. Ben asks for Naomi's sat phone again. Jack refuses. Ben asks Jack why he wants to leave the island what does Jack so desperately wants to get back to? His father is dead and his wife left him. Can Jack not wait to get back to the hospital to work? Back to fixing things? Jack won't budge. Time runs out and BLAM! BLAM! Jack hears Bernard shout, "Don't!" BLAM! Then silence. Jack attacks Ben. He punches Ben, beating him bloody. Jack grabs the walkie and tells Friendly he's going to get his people rescued, then he's coming to find him and he's going to kill him.

Jack drags Ben back to the group and orders him to be tied up. Ben sees that Rousseau can't take her eyes off Alex and introduces them. He tells Alex that Rousseau is her mother. Alex is shocked. Rousseau touches Alex's face, and then asks her to help tie Ben up.

Jack confides to Kate that Jin, Bernard and Sayid were killed and that he let it happen. He had to. But they can't tell Sun or Rose. Not yet. They have to keep moving. He promised Sayid they'd keep moving. And he brought Ben back because he wants Ben to experience the moment when they get off the island. Jack wants Ben to see it so he'll know he failed And then Jack will kill Ben.

WHOOSH to Jack at the hospital. He's drunk, goes behind an empty nurse's station and unlocks the pill cabinet, stuffing his pockets with sample packets. He leaves and runs into Dr. Hamill. Jack says he's there to follow up on the woman's operation. Dr. Hamill says he left three messages for Jack. Didn't he get them? He asks to talk to Jack privately, but Jack tells him to say whatever he has to say right there. Dr. Hamill tells Jack that the woman woke up in recovery and told him the story of seeing Jack on the bridge about to jump. He distracted her, and that's what caused the accident. Jack rages at the doctor, asking if Hamill has any idea what he's been through. Hamill asks Jack how much he's had to drink, and Jack explodes, telling him to call his father. Hamill feels sorry for Jack. Jack yells at Hamill not to pity him and leaves.

On the island, Sawyer and Juliet plot their attack on Friendly and Pryce and see Sayid, Jin and Bernard who are very much alive. Sawyer hears what sounds like a car coming up behind them fast and Hurley bursts through the jungle driving the van! Friendly, Pryce and Jason dive out of the way, shooting at the van. Hurley keeps driving and plows straight into Pryce. Jason runs up firing, but Sayid, still tied up, swings his legs out, tripping Jason, grabs him by the neck with his feet, twists and SNAP! Breaks Jason's neck. Bernard and Sawyer look at him, amazed. Juliet runs out and grabs Friendly's gun before he can reach it. Friendly gives up, but Sawyer raises his gun and BLAM! shoots Friendly in the chest! Sawyer says that's for taking the kid off the raft. Hurley points out that Friendly had surrendered. Sawyer says he didn't believe him.

Hurley takes Friendly's walkie and uses it to warn the Others they got the bastards, and unless the rest of them wanna be blown up, stay away from their beach. Having Ben's walkie, Jack hears Hurley's voice and calls back. Hurley tells him he's there with Sawyer and Juliet. Everyone's fine, including Sayid, Jin and Bernard. That stops Jack. What? Yeah, Hurley says. He saved them all. Kate overhears this, too. Jack tells Hurley to stay at the beach. Claire asks about Charlie, and Hurley reports that Charlie hasn't made it back yet.

In the Looking Glass station, Charlie goes into the communication room and enters the "Good Vibrations" code into the panel. The yellow light stops flashing and the hum of the equipment whines down. A slow grin spreads on Charlie's face. He didn't die he beat Desmond's prediction. Then a light beeps, signifying an incoming transmission. On a monitor in front of him a fuzzy video fades in. Someone is asking if anyone is there. Charlie can't believe it he's actually talking to someone in the outside world. He quickly tells the person he is one of the survivors of flight 815. They're alive and they're on an island but he doesn't know their location. The video reception improves and Charlie recognizes that it's Penelope Widmore Desmond's Penny. Excited, Charlie shouts for Desmond to get in there. Penny hears Desmond's name and asks if he's all right. Charlie says yeah, then asks if she's on the boat. Penny doesn't know what he's talking about. Penny's not on any boat.

And then Charlie sees Mikhail outside through a window holding a grenade. Mikhail pulls the pin. Realizing the station will flood and kill both he and Desmond, Charlie slams the pressurized door to the communications room shut and KA THWOOM! The grenade explodes and water floods the room. Desmond grabs a fire extinguisher and tries to smash through the window in the door, but it's too thick. Desmond watches as the water rises. Charlie quickly writes a message on his hand "not Penny's boat" and holds it up for Desmond to read. The room fills with water, and Charlie dies.

In the jungle, the group reaches the radio tower. Naomi notices the light on her sat phone has changed from red to green, and tells Jack Charlie just got them rescued. Jack and Rousseau go inside the radio tower, and Rousseau shuts off her distress signal. Naomi takes the sat phone outside and starts to get a signal. Nervous anticipation runs through the survivors. Ben says he knows Jack thinks he's saving his people but he has to stop. It's a mistake. Naomi gets a signal and THUNK! She freezes, gasps and falls over. There's a knife sticking out of her back!

Everyone looks over and sees Locke emerge from the jungle. The phone rings. Locke warns him not to answer it and threatens to shoot him. Jack tells Locke that he is done keeping him on the island. It rings again. Jack tells Locke he's going to have to kill him to stop him. But Locke can't do it he can't shoot Jack. Locke lowers the gun and tells Jack he's not supposed to do this.

And then someone is on the other end. Jack tells the guy his name, that they have Naomi with them, and that he's one of the survivors of Oceanic flight 815. He asks if they can get a fix on his location. The guy says yeah. Sit tight, they'll be right there. Someone has found them. The giddiness starts to spread through the group. They are overwhelmed at the thought of rescue.

WHOOSH to Jack sitting in his house. The room is messy with open atlases, sleeves of used Oceanic tickets and trash. Jack is drunk and seems to have hit rock bottom. He dials the same number on his cell phone again, expecting to get voicemail, but then someone answers. Jack asks the person not to hang up, to please meet him. The person agrees, and Jack leaves.

Out by the airport, Jack waits. Another car pulls up behind him. The door opens, and into the light steps Kate. She says she saw Jack on the news pulling people out of burning wreckage. Jack shrugs, old habits. And suddenly it hits us, this is who Jack has been calling this whole time. But these haven't been flashbacks. These are flash forwards.

Kate wants to know why he called her. Jack hands her the newspaper clipping and says he was hoping she heard and would go to the funeral. Kate angrily asks why she'd go to the funeral. Jack tells her he's been flying a lot. He uses the golden ticket Oceanic gave them and flies out every Friday night from Los Angeles to Tokyo. Or Singapore. Or Sydney. Always hoping to crash. He says he doesn't care about the other passengers. With every bump or moment of turbulence, he just closes his eyes and prays that he can go back. He says they made a mistake. They weren't supposed to leave. Kate shakes her head. Yes, they were. She tells him she's got to go he'll wonder where she is. She says good bye and leaves. And as she backs away, Jack shouts that they have to go back. They have to go back!

BOOM. Smash to black. See you next season.
